On the 22nd March we attended a football festival at Rhydyfelin playing fields. 39 of us took part in a skills carousel in the morning and friendly games in the afternoon. We all had an amazing day.
Rugby Festival
On 18th March Years 5/6 attended a Rugby Festival on Treforest playing fields. We took part in a skills carousel in the morning and played friendly games in the afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Men in Black
As part of our topic 'Men in Black' Brian Davies came in to our class to explain coalmining tools and artefacts to enhance our understanding of this topic. We found it very interesting and we learned alot of new things.
Brian Davies took us on a local coal walk where he pointed out and explained remnants of the past, sites and artefacts that still remain today.
K'nex Challenge
On Monday 14th March we walked to the Historical Centre in town for a K'nex workshop challenge.
Our challenge was to build a bridge that could hold varying amounts of weight in te form of food items. We thoroughly enjoyed the task with great results.

Basketball Skills
Year 5 and 6 took part in a basketball skills session in readiness for a tournament in two weeks time. The session was run by Dragon Sports in Hawthorn Leisure Centre and the children had a fabulous time. The skills that they learnt will help them immensely in the tournament.

Paul Robeson Writing Exhibition
We recently took part in a writing workshop in school with Patrick Jones. We had a lot of very helpful advice on writing poems. We visited a writing exhibition for Paul Robeson and learnt a lot of new ways of writing. It was a very informative couple of days which has given us inspiration when we are writing our own stories and poems.

OUR
TRIP TO THE HISTORICAL CENTRE
We
went to the Historical Centre with the whole class to do some
activities. When we finally got to the Historical Centre a lady told
us that we were going to be creating our own mini beast, we went on
an app called BookCreator. We firstly created a cover for our book
about our mini beasts. After changing the colour of the background
and adding a title we drew a picture of what we wanted out mini beast
to look like (using the iPad’s). We had to label the body parts on
our mini beasts to show what everything was. Afterwards we created
our mini beasts with K'nex but we only had four bendy K'nex for
wings, body, head or anything else. When we had finished creating
our mini beasts we videoed us explaining about our mini beasts and
what they eat and do. We then broke our mini beasts apart and put
everything away and then gathered on the carpet and talked about our
mini beasts then went back to school.
