Weeks 1 and 2 homeworking

Homework for Year 6
Ni hao Year 6, I hope you all enjoyed your Easter holidays, ate lots of chocolate and enjoyed the fabulous weather we had. I’m ok Mefin is keeping me busy playing games and watching films. I’m missing chatting to you all and hope to see you again soon. As we can’t go back to school yet I’m setting you work to complete each day at home ( I can hear your groans )
Make sure you read the task carefully, so you understand what you need to do before you start. Remember when it is a task to be completed in your book think about your presentation, spelling, grammar, punctuation and make sure you use handwriting. Read your work regularly throughout the task, correct any mistakes made and make sure you’ve left nothing out. If your working on Hwb make sure you give your work a suitable filename when you save it. You may find some tasks challenging don’t worry just try your best and remember you can email me on maesycoedprimary82@gmail.com at any time for help or to ask me something and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
In our class grid I have put one activity for you to complete each day.  Your maths teacher has a grid on their maths page with work for you to complete every day as well. Don’t worry if you don’ t finish or complete all your work on the day just keep working your way through the grid (remember we all work in different ways).
If you can’t remember your hwb or my maths passwords email me on the email address above.
I would also like you to try and complete the daily 5 activities if possible.  They are reading, maths practise, keep fit, being creative and celebrating something you have done well.  I’m going to try the daily 5 too and will let you know how I get on.

Keep Fit Ideas – Daily walk, jog or run, Joe Wicks PE work out, have a dance to your favourite tunes, enjoy a kickout about with a ball.

Being creative -  drawing, painting, colouring, collage, junk modelling, sing a song(www.outoftheark.co.uk). Maybe you could use natural materials in your garden or collected on a walk, use Jit5 on Hwb or create an image using everyday objects found around the home.
If you have younger brothers or sisters maybe you could complete a creative activity together.

Celebrating –Celebrate life! Take some time everyday to think about something you’ve done well or enjoyed that day. Maybe something or someone has made you smile or laugh.  You might just want to be thankful for something or someone.

Singing is an important part of our life at Maes-y-Coed,  so we are keen to keep pupils singing and enjoying music home.
Please go to
www.outoftheark.co.uk
and click 'Take a look'.
You will find a different song released each day, with words on screen for pupils to sing along. You will also find activities / actions to accompany each song. Please take a look and have fun with singing!

Extra work for the coming week

More work will be posted after the Easter Holidays.

Maths Problem Solving
All the pupils in a school were asked to choose between an adventure park and the seaside for a school trip. They voted, and the result was a ratio of 5:3 in favour of the adventure park. 125 children voted in favour of going to the adventure park.
  • How many children voted in favour of going to the seaside?

Imagine you have 25 beads. You have to make a three-digit number on an abacus. You must use all 25 beads for each number you make. How many different three-digit numbers can you make? Write them in order.

At The Zoo
Three girls visit the zoo. Can you find their favourite animal, what lolly they hd to eat and with whom they went?
Girl:   Ellie, Emily, Jessica   A nimal: Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe   Lolly: Grunge, Plooper, Zinger With:  Aunt, Grandma, Mum
 1. Ellie went to the zoo with her Grandma, but did not have a Zinger.
 2. Mum went with the girl whose favourite animal was the elephant.
 3. The girl whose favourite was the giraffe did not have a Plooper.
 4. The Aunt bought a Grunge for the child she took to the zoo, this was not Jessica.

Flies breed very quickly!
One day there are 2 flies, on the next day there are 5 flies, on the third day 14 flies and on the fourth day 41 flies.
How many flies will there be after 8 days? What about 10 days?
Look for a pattern to help you predict the answers?

 Literacy/Topic
A simile creates a picture in the reader's mind by comparing one thing with another using '... like a ...' or '... as a ...'.

EXAMPLES:
Although the giant was as big as a mountain, she was kind.
Bill shot down the street like an arrow.

Look at the picture from Pobble 365 ( picture website)   and write five sentences about it. Each sentence must contain a simile.
If the picture inspires you to write a story or poem you could do this on J2Write.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
How many days are there in a year? How many days in a leap year?
Explain why we have an extra day in February each leap year. Hint: it's something to do with the Earth travelling around the sun.
Can you find out who decided the extra day should be in February?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Reduction Activity
Watch a news clip of your choice on Cbbc Newsround. Reduce the article into a maximum of 6 key words. Use some or all of these to make a headline for the story.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Make a coal mining acrostic poem using experience of visit to big pit, class research on Senghenedd disaster, knowledge of life of miner and miners wife.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
At the moment we are all experiencing a way of life and possibly feelings we have never experienced before. Think of a time when you felt the following petrified, worried, concerned, threatened, nervous, panicky. If you’ve never felt these things try to imagine what could make you feel like this. Now think of a time you were happy, excited, laughing, proud, joyful, loved. If you think you’ve never felt these things imagine what would make you feel this way. Share these with a grown up if you wish or keep them to yourself. Whenever you feel sad, worried, frightened etc remember the happy, excited, laughing, proud, joyful and loved memories you wrote about.

Keep smiling everyone. I know life’s a bit boring for us all at the moment but it wont last forever. Keep chatting to your friends.  Take care thinking of you all. Xxx
